#GiveAway ~ Something That Simple By: Kari Nelson ~ @FL_G8rGrl

Author: Kari Nelson
Title: Something That Simple
Series: Duet Book 1
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Avery’s parents’ divorce was bad enough, but when her mother seeks the ultimate revenge against her father for his lies, deceptions, and marrying another woman, it sets Avery’s life on a path of destruction. Avery’s mother’s failed attempt at ruining her father’s honeymoon ends up leaving Avery all on her own to suffer through the aftermath that spans a lifetime.

It should never have been Matt who had to come to Avery’s rescue. But somehow, he always finds a way to aid Avery when she needs it most.

He isn’t exactly the knight in shining armor type, but when it comes to Avery, he gives her no less than the absolute best.

Her contempt for him breeds his love and devotion for her that won’t be denied.

Though he has loved no other woman and had no intentions of falling for Avery, Matt finds himself trapped in a battle of right and wrong as he fights to make Avery believe in true love, and that they have always been meant to be together.

This is a duet series told from the POV of Matt and Avery as they struggle in their love for each other; fighting scandal, family ties, and against each other every step of the way.

Nothing can ever be Something That Simple… as love.

WARNING: TRIGGERS, SEX, VIOLENCE & MURDER -This is not for the faint of heart. It can be disturbing. It is a bad, bad world we live in.

  CHARACTER SPOTLIGHTS
Author Kari Nelson has put together three brilliant profiles and insights into three characters you will meet in Something That Simple.
~~~
 ~~~

Kari Nelson is not a conventional writer. She’s extremely daring and willing and able to take plenty of risks with her writing. Pretty much writing things that go into her head, and probably shouldn’t come out, as she attempts to lead readers on a journey they wouldn’t expect and perhaps, never knew they wanted to go on.

She is very unpredictable; because what fun is there in being predictable and reading about it?

Her stuff can be raw, raunchy and downright dirty at times. Her stories can also be a roller coaster of emotions that can leave one breathless with literary prose or throwing a fit out of sheer frustration of it not going in their desired direction.

She loves the possibilities in insanity and the deeply deranged. She will take you to the brink of crazy and slowly bring you back to normal.

As a genre jumper, due to her fascination with sexuality, religion, and politics, she often finds herself in hot water because her thoughts on these heated-debate topics are unconventional, and cannot be placed in a box. But as a freethinker, she refuses to conform.

Excerpt:

His deep voice is full of sex when he says, “You realise when I said I was hungry, I didn’t mean for food, right?”
“I’m aware.”
He grins. “Good.” Still holding my hand, he pulls me in closer and cocks his brow. “So are you gonna invite me inside?”
My breath hitches. “Excuse me? You have some nerve—”
“I want you,” he says. “And some part of you wants me. Invite me inside, Trey.”
I scowl. “Don’t tell me what to do.”
“Why not? Somebody should.”
I sputter. “What?”
He shrugs and lets my hand go. “You can be an arrogant little shit, and I’m just—”
“What?” This guy is unbelievable! “I’m an arrogant shit?”
“That’s what I just said.” His words and his solemn nod are the last straw.
I punch him in the face.
Well, I try to. He ducks away just in time, smirks, and it fuels my rage. I shove him in the chest in a quick burst of energy, but I’m lucky if he moves an inch. “You’re the arrogant shit!” I yell. “Ever since I first saw you, you’ve been a complete arsehole! And don’t fucking tell me you want me right before you insult me, that’s not how it works! The second part completely supersedes the first, so fuck you very much and goodnight.”
I make it two steps before I’m pulled into his arms. I struggle for a moment until his lips meet mine. Fuck, this man is mercurial. I don’t understand him or anything that comes out of his mouth, but I can’t deny the physical chemistry we have. His touch brings out a hunger in me I’ve never experienced before.
His lips move down over my chin to my neck. He growls, “Invite me inside, Trey.”

Excerpt:
In one corner of the kitchen, the baby lay in the playpen Amber must have moved from the living room.

Amber stood at the counter. She had shed her robe, revealing a soft-looking yellow sweater skimming her waist and a pair of jeans hugging her hips. His mouth watered. And no matter how he tried, he couldn’t connect that reaction to the appetizing smell of coffee filling the kitchen.

As if she’d heard his thoughts, she frowned. “I hope you won’t be too disappointed.”

“Me? Never.” He cleared his throat and brought his voice down a few octaves. “Ah…disappointed by what?”

“I still have coffee on the hot plate. But the fridge is nearly empty. If you want something to eat, you’ll have to settle for eggs or canned soup. Or a plate of my mom’s leftovers.”

“I’ll pass for tonight. But for the record, leftovers are my favorite meal.”

Her laugh was exactly the response he’d gone for. Instead, he should have been focused on finding out why she was here. He followed her movements from the counter to the fridge and back again. As her employer, he should have been noticing her competence in the kitchen.

Not even close.

From the playpen, her daughter babbled for a bit. Probably saying You’d better watch yourself, mister.

He darned sure would.

At the time he’d met Amber, he had been clueless about her pregnancy. But even before they’d gone their separate ways that day, his interest in her had kicked off a craving he wanted to satisfy. Stupid thinking, when he had no intention of getting involved with a woman like her, a woman who had one big flaw, at least as far as he was concerned.

She had already started a family.

He’d had his fill of raising his brothers, who added a few new twists to the word dysfunctional. Seeing how some of them had turned out, no way did he want to risk going through that again with kids of his own.

Amber’s daughter and Amber’s dedication to her family were the deal breakers for him. The steps he wouldn’t take. The places he wouldn’t go.

And so, he’d made a mental note: Scratch her name off the Dating Potential list. Permanently.

Yet on his visits here with a houseful of business associates, he always found time to talk with her. To check up on the lodge and the property… Yeah, sure. The truth was, there had always been something drawing him to Amber. Something different about her from all the other women he knew. Something enticing him close to a line he couldn’t cross.

As he had no guests with him this visit, he’d also had no intention of asking her to work.

Didn’t take a brain surgeon to understand he’d wanted to avoid temptation.

Excerpt:

I hit something, bounced, scraped, and finally landed with a thud that rattled my whole body.

I lay in the dark, blinded, my head ringing, pain washing over me in great waves. My lungs screamed for air, but it seemed like I’d forgotten how to breathe.

Finally I dragged in a breath. I closed my eyes and focused on breathing, waiting for the world to settle into place.

Rain misted my face, so I must be lying on my back. My head felt heavier than my feet. I shifted and realized I was lying on a slope with my head pointing down.

I tried to concentrate on those little details. I couldn’t handle anything more. Panic fluttered around me, but I refused to think about anything but the present moment. I flexed my fingers. When that worked, I moved my hands over my body, up to my face. My head throbbed, but when I felt around my skull, I didn’t find any serious damage.

I had to move. The thought battered at the back of my mind, a panicky whisper that I tried to ignore. I had to run. Hide. He was after me. I had to get away.

I clenched my teeth hard, as if I could bite back the pain and fear. Memories crowded in, like panicked ghosts wailing at the edges of my mind. Guns, strange men. Dangerous, threatening men. Danesh trying to protect me, the gun going off. My own helpless, panicked flight. Helpless. Worthless. Unable to fight, unable even to scream.

I tried to focus on this one moment, the physical sensations of my aching body as I lay on the hard, damp ground. The cold against my bare calves, the lump of rock pressing into my shoulder. That focus helped keep me grounded in the present. Never mind that this present wasn’t a place I wanted to be. I had to deal with reality. But I didn’t have to also deal with nightmares. Not now.

The little whimpers in my throat faded to short gasping breaths. I held on to this moment, this single slice of reality. Now to move forward. I didn’t have to like it, but I had to do it. One step at a time.

#GiveAway #Review #ReadForever TWISTED TRUTHS by Rebecca Zanetti ~ @RebeccaZanetti

TWISTED TRUTHS
Part of the BLOOD BROTHERS series.
by Rebecca Zanetti

~*~*~*~*~
Review:
Are you looking for a fabulous romantic suspense that there is no way you are going to be able to put it down? Well then I have a book for you, Twisted Truths by Rebecca Zanetti, will have you clinging to the edge of your seat while you flip those pages just as fast as you can. This is -one page-turner of a story.

Noni is a very strong, independent lady that stands up for herself and protects her family. She does her best until something drastic happens. Her newborn niece is kidnapped by the no good, rotten, gang banger father. Noni wants her niece back safe and sound. So she lets it be known she is looking for  Denver Jones.

Denver and his brothers have lived a very rough and tumbled life. They are always on alert for those that wish to harm them. I don't want to tell you too much about that but there are evil people after Denver and his brothers. Even with the danger Denver goes to Noni and gets her to safety. Then he goes on the hunt for her little niece. All the while those strong feelings of attraction between Denver and Noni are growing stronger by the moment.

There are so many people that Denver, Noni, his brothers, and their significate others are in danger from. Around every corner there is another obstacle that puts them in danger, or changes how they have to deal with each problem. They all work incredibly well together and I loved how Denver's family quickly welcomes Noni and her niece into their family.

There is drama, suspense, mystery, action, a few really hot and steamy scenes, wonderful family interaction, and no good rotten people that just might get what they have coming to them.

There is plenty going on in this story that I could not put it down. I read it in two sittings because I just had to know what Denver and Noni were going to have to face next and how they were going to get out the dangerous situations they were in. I also had to find out how in the world they were ever going to get Noni's niece back with all the interference that is happening each time they get close to her.

Overall this is an incredible story that I truly enjoyed. If you enjoy a heart-pounding drama-filled romantic suspense then you really have to grab this one. This is the third book in the series but I think it could be read as a stand-alone. I have read book two and three now and I did OK with missing book one. If you have a chance to grab all three go for it! I think you will enjoy them all.

I was given the opportunity to read this incredible story and it has been my great pleasure to share my thoughts with you.

Q&A with  Rebecca Zanetti:

Crystal: I'm honored to have Rebecca Zanetti do a quick Q&A today. Please don't mind me while I fangirl over here for a few minutes.

Rebecca: Thanks for having me over today to celebrate the release of Twisted Truths!

Q: Where did you come up with the idea for TWISTED TRUTHS?

A: Well, in Deadly Silence, Denver was the quiet and wounded brother, so there had to be a reason. It made sense that he’d left the love of his life behind. So, for Twisted Truths, there had to be a really good reason Noni would hunt him down after he’d broken her heart. Her niece was kidnapped, which is a pretty good reason. The rest of the story unfolded from there.

Q: Do you have a favorite snack that you like to munch on while writing? If so would you mind sharing what it is with us?

A: I’m not much of a snacker, but I’ll have coffee or tea with me while writing. And always a glass of water. That doesn’t sound like much fun, but I have a Keurig latte machine, so the coffee is a little fancy.

Q: When you are not busy writing wonderful stories to keep us lucky readers entertained, what do you like to do? Do you have a hobby?

A: Fun question! I have two kids who are involved in several sports, so I’m usually at a game somewhere. Or in the summer, we go to the lake. I write there, but it’s very relaxed. And in the winter, we do go snowmobiling when we get the chance. But I write in the cabin there, too.

Q: Do you have a favorite background noise you like to having going while you write?

A: I have a music playlist for every book. Part of the fun of getting ready to write the next book is to create a new playlist, although I often reuse several songs from the last book. Then I’ll hear something on a television show or the radio and will add that song to the playlist.
(PLAYLIST: https://open.spotify.com/user/foreverromance/playlist/2vYDDAUJzwq0jdoK9vnLqa)

Q: How does it feel to conclude this series and what will you be working on next?

A: I’m a little sad to have concluded this series, to be honest. This world was a fun one to play around in, and I’m going to miss it. As for what’s next? Hmmm. We’ll see about that.

Excerpt:

Slowly, numbly, she shrugged.  “I knew you were dangerous and relentless in pursuing somebody,” she whispered.  But a killer?   Her search for him had held a romantic element, and she knew it.  This guy was all edge—no romance.  “Am I in danger?”  Her voice quivered, but she had to know.
“Yes.”  He didn’t move.  Didn’t even seem to breathe.
She blinked.  Rapidly.  “From you?”
His eyes darkened.  “No.  The only thing I’m capable of breaking is your heart.”
Cold swam through her.  The arrogance.  “You think you broke my heart?”
His lip twisted.  “I know I did.”  His tone was low with what seemed like self-hatred.  Dark and raw.  “I’m sorry.”
Those words.  She’d needed those words and hadn’t realized how badly.  “Thank you,” she said, going on instinct.  “Then how am I in danger?”
“I’m in danger, and anybody close to me is free game for an enemy who will keep coming until I’m dead.  Until everything I care about, everything I dream about, is taken away and I want death.”  He looked back down at the computer, intensity pouring from him.
Whoa. Okay.  Denver didn’t have one bit of hysteria in him.  His words scared her, but curiosity still rose up.  “Who?”
“Irrelevant.  As soon as we get Talia back, you have to forget me.  Now.  Back to Richie.”
She could live forever, and she’d never forget him.  Not for one second had she been able to pretend he didn’t exist.  But he was right.  They had to find Talia, but he still needed to explain more.  She had a right to know everything.  “I have files on everything.”  She threw her pack at Denver, and he easily caught it before it smashed him in the face.
He didn’t so much as frown.  “Thank you.”
She swallowed.  They were in the same room.  After a year of hurting for him, he was right there in solid form.  More than solid.  She hadn’t imagined his hard body or intense charisma.  He owned every room he walked into with no effort.  She’d never met anybody like him, and here he was.  Her body tingled, her heart ached, and her mind spun.  Yeah.  Denver was definitely there.  “What now?” she asked, her eyes gritty and her throat scratchy.
“I’ll do some research.”  Slowly, numbly, she shrugged.  “I knew you were dangerous and relentless in pursuing somebody,” she whispered.  But a killer?   Her search for him had held a romantic element, and she knew it.  This guy was all edge—no romance.  “Am I in danger?”  Her voice quivered, but she had to know.
